The last time we saw a rugged camera from Canon, it was the blimp-like D10, which was actually a very solid little compact. But, the tough camera market is growing, drawing even Nikon into the fray, which is why we're glad to see Canon updating their rugged offering.

When Nikon announced the D4 DSLR a while back, they made it very clear that they wanted it to be a full-fledged multi-media machine. That sentiment has been carried down a level with the new D800, which boasts many of the same video capture features in addition to its massive megapixel count.

Anyone who has done nature photography knows the frustration of getting two shots that are almost perfect — which could be combined together into one with everything you wanted. Now, most people won't act on that impulse, but it appears that Bryan Patrick at the Sacramento Bee did just that. He combined two shots of a snowy egret trying to steal a frog from a great egret in order to get the best of both images.

We’ve seen a lot of photo recreations, from old childhood photos, to famous masterpieces, now add catalog illustrations to the list.   To celebrate its 100-year anniversary, L.L.
