Sony has been on something of a 50mm lens kick lately. First, it introduced its version of the ‘nifty fifty” in the form of the affordable 50mm f/1.8. Then came the super-high-end Planar T* FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA prime for pro shooters. Now, Sony has announced a new FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro prime lens for full-frame cameras like the A7S Mark II.

The new Macro lens is a true macro lens with a 1:1 reproduction ratio, which means it can focus to 6.3-inches, allowing for close-up photography with a looser composition.

It has a focus-range limiter to help prevent the lens from hunting when you’re trying to get close to a subject, a problem that exists in many close-up shooting situations. It also has a focus hold button in case you’re focusing by adjusting the distance between camera and the subject.

In terms of optics, the lens features an Extra-Low Dispersion element to help address chromatic aberration issues that pop up when focus gets extremely close.

The lens will be available in September for $500
