Glitch art is a currently popular art trend, which intentionally introduces errors into digital files. That means breaking your images on purpose, corrupting and altering them to create bizarre abstractions and surreal versions of the original photograph. While some people use specially crafted cameras for this, or manually go into the 1s and 0s of a file and mess around, there is an easier way for people who are fond of the look and feel of glitch art.

Glitché is a free iPhone app that lets you modify images according to several popular glitch techniques. You can can add standard glitch artifacts, scan lines, inversions, LCD warping, down-sample the image, and more. And once you have destroyned the photograph to your liking, you can send it to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and more.

While glitch art isn’t up everyone’s alley, it’s an interesting reaction to the overall push in digital photography to make the cleanest, nicest images possible. You can think of data glitching as almost like a truly digital version of lomo, intentionally downgrading the photographic process for artistic effect.
