The devastating tornado that leveled much of Joplin, Missouri this past spring is still fresh in the minds of residents as the holiday season approaches. And while homes and businesses can be rebuilt and most possessions can be replaced, losing family photos during a disaster is often devastating because the images are irreplaceable.

But Joplin residents were recently given the opportunity to get back some of the photos that may have been lost or damaged in the tornado. During the week-long grand opening of a rebuilt Walmart store this month, Fujifilm offered free photo restoration and scanning for those who had prints damaged in the spring tornado. The company also set up a photo studio to take new family portraits.

During the event, 300 new family portraits were taken and damaged prints for 250 families were restored.
