In addition to the skinny-but-tough TX5, Sony has also announced a new 10x zooming compact. The $250 H55 sports a Sony G lens with a 35mm equivalent of 25-250mm. Inside is a 14.1-megapixel CCD that has the same 720p movie capture capability as the TX5. To help make the 10x zoom as useful as possible, they have beefed up the Optical SteadyShot IS system to include a moveable lens element that, in Active Mode, provides “10 times the range of the Optical SteadyShot feature at wide end in standard mode.”

It lacks the built-in HDR mode of the TX5, but maintains the Sweep Panorama mode, as well as iAuto shooting mode and the Smile Shutter setting which automatically captures smiling faces. It will be available in April in silver and black. Sorry crazy color fans.
