The full-body suit is approved for Instagram’s nudity policy

Instagram has just updated its guidelines to make it clear to users what images can and cannot be shared through the app. In the guidelines, the app states, “We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram.”

The newly published guidelines get particularly specific on the rules surrounding posts with said nudity, and stand by their policy that “photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks,” are prohibited and will be removed.

The guidelines about nudity have often been a controversial topic, particularly among women, with female celebrities like Rihanna and Chelsea Handler experiencing backlash from the app for nude photos.

Instagram does make it clear, though, that an image depicting a woman actively breastfeeding, or showing post-mastectomy scarring is allowed. Photos that show nudity in paintings and sculptures are fine as well, so your museum snapshots are good to go.

The new guidelines also touch on staying away from images that offer illegal services, or “support or praise terrorism, organized crime, or hate groups.”

This update comes just a few weeks after Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, updated its guidelines to reflect similar policies.
