1st Place $300 Prize Byron Yu, 33, Product Manager, Toronto, ON “I’ve been through Chicago’s O’Hare airport many times, and I’ve always been amazed by this tunnel. On my recent stopover from Las Vegas with my fiancée, I made sure that I was prepared to photograph it—we had only 30 minutes between flights. In the corridor, I put my camera on my little tripod as I stepped onto the walkway, set it for a 10-second exposure, and shot it in one go.” (flickr.com/photos/sixty9) Tech specs: Tripod-mounted Canon EOS 5d and 21mm f/4 Super-angulon Leica lens with adapter; 10 sec at f/4, ISO 100. Minor adjustments in Adobe Photoshop. Monthly Photo Conetst Want to enter? Get all the info you need, including the official rules, at PopPhoto.com/YourBestShot

I’m interested in close-up photography and had extension tubes, so I decided to try to capture a profile view of that magical quality of light. A large aperture gave me shallow depth of field and created the fuzzy background bokeh.” (flickr.com/photos/alliefelt) Tech specs: Nikon D80 with 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor lens and Kenko extension tubes; 1/125 sec at f/1.8, ISO 100.

3rd Place $100 Prize Debby Barich, 51, Postal Carrier, Eugene, OR “I’ve been photographing Oregon’s spring flowers for years—and my picture of peonies was a 1st-place Your Best Shot winner in June 2009. These are calla lilies, which I noticed one day on my postal route and returned later with my husband to photograph. We held an off-camera flash in a 16-inch softbox, and used a cardboard reflector for fill light.” (www.oregonmacro.com) Tech specs: Canon EOS 5D Mark II with 105mm f/2.8 Sigma lens and sunpak 622 super pro flash. Exposure, 1/160 sec at f/22, ISO 100.
