Baseball and Photography collectors are both known for their willingness to spend large sums of money for desirable items, and those communities are currently overlapping in the bidding for the iconic photographic archive of Charles M. Conlon.

The auction, which is currently held by Heritage Auctions, includes images captured by Conlon between 1904 and 1942. The collection includes 7,462 negatives, many of which depict the most famous names in baseball history like Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb.

The New York Times has some interesting historical context for Conlon’s work. The collection is ultimately expected to end up with a sale price of over $1 million.

Some of the photos are really striking, even if you don’t really care about baseball or its ambassadors.
