Sigma is not messing around when it comes to its new line of cinema lenses. The Sigma Cine lens line will start with 18-35mm T2 and a 50-100mm T2 crop-sensor zoom lenses, then expand into a 24-35mm T2.2 full-frame lens and a collection of full-frame primes in the next year.

The Sigma Cine lenses have all the markings and features you’d expect out of a high-end cinema lens. Sigma

By all accounts, these are full-fledged cinema lenses. They have the follow-focus gears and the clearly-marked, side-mounted scales for easy focusing, and they measure aperture in T-stops, rather than F-stops, to correct for the light lost as it travels through the glass elements.

According to the press material, the lenses are designed to stand up to the rigors of high-megapixel and high-resolution image capture, all the way up to 8K.

The prime lenses will cover a full-frame image sensor and will be coming some time in 2017. Sigma

The lenses are scheduled to hit the USA and Japan first, but the roll out will be a bit fragmented. The first two official zooms will come in Canon EF and Sony E mounts. The additional lenses will come at a later time with the eventual integration of a PL lens mount.

There’s no official pricing information just yet, but these are definitely intended to be high-end working lenses. The bodies are weather-resistant and details like the focus rotation distance have been tweaked specifically for cinema applications.
