If you're unimpressed by the Nikon V1's piddling little grip, you don't have to be stuck with a camera that falls out of your hands at a moment's notice. Richard Franiec — whose custom grips for the Canon S95 we've covered before — has announced a new grip for the Nikon V1.
This grip is designed for comfort and safety when handling the heft of the Nikon 1 V1, especially when coupled with the FT-1 adapter and heavy lenses. The grip does not obstruct the battery/card door and preserves the original location of the tripod socket on the centerline of the lens. Once applied the grip becomes an integral part of the V1.The grip is individually machined from high grade aluminum alloy, glass bead blasted, then anodized for durability. It attaches to the V1 with VHB (very high bond) clear transfer tape known for its incredible bonding power.
The grip is available for pre-order now, will be available in the second half of march, and will set you back $34.95. Franiec is already shipping a companion grip for the Nikon J1, for the same price. If you want something a touch easier on the wallet, there's the Flipbac G4, which will only set you back $10.99, but is made of silicone instead of aluminum alloy.
