Movie Camera Operators Talk About Their Craft

The sheer scope of Hollywood movie productions has always been fascinating to me. In this video, three veteran Hollywood movie camera operators discuss some of what it’s like to be in charge of the massive cameras with which they shoot actual blockbusters.

It’s not a video chock full of technical information, but rather a rather candid discussion about the nature of capturing images for motion pictures. I particularly enjoy the part when they talk about trying to get a “perfect shot” and how it basically doesn’t exist.

I’ve always enjoyed analyzing the visual aspects of films—even those of the big popcorn blockbuster variety—so it’s interesting to hear from the guys responsible for it.
