Looking at Gregory Crewdson’s work can actually be a little humbling for some photographers. He uses light in creative ways that can leave even serious lighting enthusiasts scratching their heads.

The truth is that his process is as impressive as his images. His sets closely resemble the ones used for shooting major motion pictures, with huge lights, built sets and staff running everywhere. In the video above, he explains that he convinced an entire town to shut down a street, leaving it unplowed so he could get the desired photographic result.

It’s the kind of production that many of us photography nerds will never get to experience first hand. But, it sure is interesting to get a peak. Would you want to be at the helm of a production like that? Or do you prefer a more intimate setting?
