Photo walk

The annual Worldwide Photo Walk is the world’s largest photography gathering, attracting near 30,000 attendees at 1,000 walks around the world. Organized by Scott Kelby, these free get-togethers are taking place over this weekend, and all you have to do to sign up is find a walk near you, and put your name on the list — and yes, it’s free. On the day, you’ll all get together, walk around your town, and hopefully take some interesting photographs before heading back to a local establishment to share your images and maybe have a pint or two.

It’s a chance to meet other local photographers, and hopefully see your city with a fresh set of eyes — weather allowing. There are also prizes involved, just to sweeten the pot. You can upload your favorite shot to the Photo Walk website, and each walk leader will chose the best in that trip to win a copy of Kelby’s book “Light It, Shoot It, Retouch It“. Of all those winners, Scott will chose 10 finalists and one grand prize winner, all of whom will take home some pretty sweet gear. You can see some of last year’s winning photographs on the website.

It’s not too late to sign up! Just get in quick before all the spots get filled, and for some hints for the day, see this blog post from Kelby’s website.
