_ Pentax’s new RS 1000 allows for customizable skins_
To compliment the release of their new DSLR, the Kr, Pentax also introduced two bargain-oriented compact cameras, the Optio RZ 10 and the Optio RS 1000.
The 14.1megapixel Optio RZ 10 really packs a punch in the zoom department, offering 10x optical zoom (28-280mm 35mm equivalent), all in a sleek and slender package. The RZ 10 also features Pentax’s sensor shift Shake Reduction (SR), to help cut down on unwanted blur, especially when zoomed all the way out.
Face detection and 720p HD video (30fps), round out the feature list.
It will be available next month in four colors (violet, lime green, white and black) $219.
The Optio RS 1000 uses the same 14.1-inch CCD sensor, but chops the zoom range down to 4x (28-110mm 35mmm equivalent). They managed to keep the 720p HD video mode around as well.
To further entice younger shooters, Pentax has developed a skin system that allows owners to customize their cameras with specially-cut stickers. Every RS 1000 comes equipped with a free pack of 8 standard skins and a gift card for one free skin at Skinit.com. DIY types can use the included stencil to make their own skins out of anything they can get at with an Exacto knife.
Look for it to hit shelves in October at the allowance-friendly price of $150.
