Unlike Nikon’s other announcement, the S5100 doesn’t have a single feature that stands out, unless you count its planned $179 price tag. With a 12.2-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD, the S5100 has everything you’d expect from a value-oriented compact. You also get 4-way VR image stablization and 18 familiar scene modes.

You also get 720p video capture at 30 fps, which isn’t bad when you consider that it’s actually cheaper than an HD Flip camera. Plus, because it’s aimed at the fashion-forward crowd, it’s available in black, purple, pink and blue. Look for it to start hitting shelves in October.
