We first heard about Sigma’s versatile new 17-50mm F/2.8 EX DC OS HSM zoom lens back at PMA, but now we finally have a price and date to go with the specs. According to the press release, the Canon-mount version of the lens is available right now for $980, with Nikon, Sigma, Sony and Pentax versions to arrive, “in the coming weeks.”

It does seem a little odd that the Canon version would beat even the Sigma-mount version to the shelves, but we’re glad to see them rolling out none-the-less.

The lens itself is designed for cameras with APS-C sensors and uses Sigma’s FLD glass, which is their answer to fluorite. The OS system offers up four extra stops of hand-held stablization.
