Before you go getting your hopes up, this product is nothing more than a concept at the moment, but it does lay the groundwork for a rather clever product that we wouldn’t be surprised to see in the real world some day. The design is actually very simple, implanting a flexible solar panel into the widest part of the strap. The juice collected by the panel is then filtered into the camera using a DC out. Unfortunately, it probably wouldn’t be as simple as the rendering would suggest with most current cameras that use power adapters that enter through the battery compartment.
Also, it’s worth noting that, while solar panels have been making great strides when it comes to efficiency, this solution would only really make sense if it could be constantly attached to the battery, topping it off at all times. Unless, of course, you don’t mind some serious sunburn. If you can’t wait for solar charging, there are already a few options out there (like the ones from Sundance Solar), but none of them are nearly as stylish or compact as the non-existant strap charger.
