Tip of the Day: Capturing Rainbows

Polarizers can help rainbows stand out a little better. Not only do they darken the sky, but, even more so, they intensify the refractions of light in the water droplets that create the rainbow’s hues. Because of this, you can also lose some color in a rainbow if you dial the polarizer in a way that cuts the refractions of light, so beware of this. The BetterPhoto Guide to Exposure by Sean Arbabi (AMPhoto Books, 2008; $25)
