I've been on a bit of a break for the past couple of weeks, visiting one family and then another. Hope you enjoyed your holiday season as I did. Now it's time to start probing the news of the photo world.
And wouldn't you know it? While I was on vacation the Queen of England went and made photographer Harry Benson (above) a Commander of Order of the British Empire. When I saw the announcement late last week I sent off a quick email to Harry's wife, Gigi, who confirmed the news. "We are happy and amazed," she said.
She also confirmed that, as a CBE, Harry is not to be called Sir Harry. Yet. That would be the next step up in the awards the Queen gives out.
Harry has been living in the United States for years, but he's always maintained Brit citizenship (along with his Fleet Street enjoyment of snapping newsmaking images of the rich and powerful). We send our congratulations to him and his family.
