Scott Roeben submitted this image, no exif data available. This is a great close-up shot. Scott has used a shallow depth of field and managed to capture a stare from this tiny creature. Nice clean background and an interesting composition draws all of the attention to the insect's eye. The lighting is even and helps to show detail in the legs but is a little bright where it hits in front of the eye. Ironically the brightness of the area helps to draw attention to the eye. With the exception of making me want to call the exterminator this is a unique image and well done. It even has a graphic feel from all of the various appendages throughout the image and has implemented a great use of negative space. —Melissa Macatee
