Your Photo: Our Critique

This photo was submitted by Larry Durandette taken with a Pentax K10D, at 1/8sec, f/2.8,ISO 200. The focus is sharp which isn’t always easy when using a slower shutter speed. The main set of candles across the center of the photo gives a nice visual line to follow and the different levels of candles and flames give the image a good balance. The candle light is illuminating the texture and details in the candles. The negatives are the out of focus foreground and the bright green light in the top

The main set of candles across the center of the photo gives a nice visual line to follow and the different levels of candles and flames give the image a good balance. The candle light is illuminating the texture and details in the candles. The negatives are the out of focus foreground and the bright green light in the top left corner. Getting around the foreground is not as easy, considering the angle Larry was trying to capture, this might have been his best angle. Always try to look at the scene from different perspectives considering things like foreground and background. The background in general is a nice complement to the candles. This is a nice start and overall the idea was to capture the candle light which was done nicely.
