Your Photo: Our Critique

This photo was submitted by Justin Ramsdell, taken with a Nikon D40X, at 1/100 sec, F/2.8, ISO 200. This is a nice start but can be improved upon. Watch your backgrounds, the white object in the back left is very distracting. I am missing those ears, go ahead and include them if you can. The cat’s left eye is tack sharp, and the rest of the image has been thrown out of focus with the shallow depth of field, because the photographer was so close to the subject.

Open up the levels and slide both the black point and the white point in and you will see a marked difference in the cats fur, eyes and the blue background. The purpose of this photo was actually to test out a 30mm f/1.4 lens, which appears to be a great lens.
