The American Society of Magazine Editors does a fun little contest to pick the best magazine covers of the year. They’ve just announced the three finalists, including this cover from New York magazine. The other two nominees for cover of the year include The New Yorker and Interview, but I’m not showing them, because they won’t win. This snide take on former New York governor Eliot Spitzer, which came out just after his hooker-affair went public, was just genius. (I know all you circulation/newsstand specialists would tell me it’s a bad cover because it doesn’t have enought punchy, high-sell cover lines. But I don’t care.)–David Schonauer
