Your Photo: Our Critique

Original file Carly practiced what we keep suggesting regarding sunsets and sunrises, she composed her image originally metering just to the side of the sun and then recomposed the photo. What she got was a yellow sun with some detail instead of a blown out sun and lifeless sky. The silhouette of the trees is a nice touch and provides some nice lines.

Carly Ritter submitted this image taken with a Panasonic TZ3. Carly practiced what we keep suggesting regarding sunsets and sunrises, she composed her image originally metering just to the side of the sun and then recomposed the photo. What she got was a yellow sun with some detail instead of a blown out sun and lifeless sky. The silhouette of the trees is a nice touch and provides some nice lines. The sky is a little lackluster but the clouds add a nice texture to the sky. To add a little life to the sky try adjustment layers and work with the curves and a touch of saturation to the red and cyan channel being careful not to overdo it. A slight crop off of the top still leaving some space between the top of the frame and the top of the trees would tighten it up.
