Where to Go and What to See

As usual in early August, there isn't exactly a flood of shows this week, but there are three very good ones that you should know about. Q. Sakamaki's documentary project on the late 80s/early 90s clean up of Tompkins Square Park in NYC is a fascinating window into how different the city was not so long ago (at powerHouse Arena Wednesday). Keba Armand Konte's life/career retrospective, 888 Pieces of We, includes images printed on interesting materials, particularly the covers of vintage books (at the Oakland Art Gallery in California on Friday). And Bob Willoughby's _Vintage Hollywoo_d prints include probing images of silver screen stars on and off the set (Stephen Bulger in Toronto on Sunday).
