What makes this photo different is that Luis used an off camera flash and lit the photo from an angle. Consider cropping the window opening on the right side of the frame for more focus on the boy unless you really want it for context. This is a great portrait, crisp, clear, well lit. Not all portraits have to have smiling faces, this type of image shows a much deeper, thoughtful side of the child which are sometimes appreciated more after the child grows up.
