Just like beach shots, sunsets can become boring and cliché very quickly. Instead of photographing the actual sunset, try photographing the surfaces that the golden orange light is hitting. This seems like a no-brainer, but the results will probably be more interesting. If you’re at the beach, watch the light hitting the wet sand or rocks. In the city, look for the reflection on everything from buildings to people to cars. Focus on the angles that are created by the long shadows, and you’re sunset photos will be anything but cliché.
