Your Photo: Our Critique

Kyle Haubold submitted this image taken in Washington D.C. during the cherry blossom festival. I am assuming Kyle has tried to take a picture of this statue from a different perspective, which is great, but it misses.

Kyle Haubold submitted this image taken in Washington D.C. during the cherry blossom festival. Kyle set his Rebel XTi to 1/4000sec at f/3.2, ISO 400. With his shutter speed so high, Kyle could have set his ISO lower and even underexposed a bit since the sun is really causing such blown out highlights. The focal point is not as clear as it could be. I am assuming Kyle has tried to take a picture of this statue from a different perspective, which is great, but it misses. The line running across the statue is distracting and the background detracts from the subject instead of enhancing it. In this case a deeper depth of field would give the viewer more information. Using black and white is an interesting choice but the photo needs more tonal range.
