Before After

Chuck Medairy sent in this image shot with his Pentax *ist DL at f/5.6 ISO 3200. I cleaned up the original image so the little girl is not competing with a cluttered background. By cropping in tighter you lose the vending machine and passerby in the background, and you still have the woman holding her but now the little girl's eyes pull you into the image. I did a quick adjustment to remove some of the green tones and to warm up the skin, a conversion to black-and-white would also work and would get rid of the green tones. Don't be afraid to move in close, this is a perfect example of thinking about what you want from your photo as you compose it. This is a nice beginning, if you are uncomfortable about getting close right away, take a couple of different shots as you zoom in or move closer.
