Turning off your autofocus will often help when photographing fast macro subjects. If you’re feeling frustrated because your autofocus keeps going in the wrong direction, causing you to miss the shot, simply turn it off. Set your focus on the flower or other location where you think the subject will be, wait for it to arrive, and then quickly physically move in and out of focus until you see the subject come into focus.
