Successful star trails can take several tries. This photo submitted by Mirian Chicas lacks something interesting besides the stars. We ran a “How to Shoot Star Streaks” article in our April 2007 issue and featured a Your Best Shot star trail winner in August. If you compare this photo with the one by Jim Brandenburg featured in the article (below), you can see major differences. The tree should be a completely black silhouette. A more interesting color sky would be better as well as a different composition. Try getting more objects or trees in the photo instead of just the stars.
