Your Photo: Our Critique

There’s a wonderful asymmetrical balance between the tree and the bird, the subjects of primary interest in this image. That the tree is cut off is a touch unsettling though. There’s fantastic complementary colors in the twilight water and sky, which adds to the overall feel of this shot. However, the hard, straight, hot lines between the background foliage and the main subjects keeps pulling the eye away from all that is so strong in this image. It adds tension in a scene that is otherwise idyl

There's fantastic complementary colors in the twilight water and sky, which adds to the overall feel of this shot. However, the hard, straight, hot lines between the background foliage and the main subjects keeps pulling the eye away from all that is so strong in this image. It adds tension in a scene that is otherwise idyllic and serene—so it's not the good kind of tension. If you are not averse to some post-production work, we strongly suggest you carefully clone out that hard, hot line to really kick this image up a notch. (Photo submitted by Gabrielle Smith)
