Where to Go and What to See

Many galleries seem to be taking advantage of the July 4th holiday this week, leaving the big openings to the museums. But Laurence Miller in New York, Gallery Kayafas in Boston, and G. Gibson in Seattle aren't taking the season lying down: All three are opening interesting group shows as soon as the fireworks burn out. And three museums are adding to the Independence Day festivities with heavy-hitting retrospectives: Hiroshi Sugimoto at the De Young in San Francisco, Ron Rosenstock at the Hallmark Museum in Massachusetts, and Jeff Wall, which opened last week at the Art Institute of Chicago.
