A New Zealand woman reportedly sent and email to her friends containing a Photoshopped image of a tornado that she created. The image of the fake twister in New Plymouth, New Zealand, an area recently devastated my severe weather, made it into the hands of two local TV stations that ran the photo in their news broadcasts.
Was it a case of laziness on the broadcasters part? A common pitfall of citizen journalism? Or as the broadcasters suggest, a simple case of one photo slipping though the fact checking cracks?
