Any photographer that’s received any advice knows a tripod will make your shots better.Even the steadiest of hands puts some shake into the mix while taking a photo. If you’re doing architectural, landscape, macro, or portrait photography it’s even more important.
Here are two recommendations for a tripod setup:

Carbon fiber legs: Gitzo’s got great legs. They are lightweight, which is great because you don’t want to to carry around a heavy tripod through the woods or to a location unless you really need the extra stability.

Lightweight ball-type head : Check out the Acratech Ultimate Ballhead. Wait for the v2, v1 is great but is really limited when dropping down to get a vertical/portrait shot. Just by looking at the new version I can tell they fixed that glitch. Get the quick release plate bubble level while you’re at it.
