I differ with Jay on his criticism of Foreign Policy (FP) magazine for its 9/11 anniversary cover. With the possible exception of news magazines--and FP really isn't one--covers traditionally aren't held to the same journalistic standard as the photographs inside. I'll get to the manipulation and copying issues Jay brings up in a minute, but here are a couple of things to keep in mind about magazine covers.
