J.J. Abrams Got Lens Flare Shamed By His Wife
Apparently J.J.'s wife has had enough lens flare at the movies and at home

It’s a long-running joke that movie director J.J. Abrams really loves using lens flare in his movies. Both Star Trek and Super 8 were packed with it. Apparently his wife took notice and told him to cut it out.
In the photo community, lens flare is a pretty polarizing topic. Some photographers, especially modern portrait photographers, really enjoy it for its dreamy effect and unpredictable nature. Some people simply see it as a defect in the gear or photographer’s technique. I tend to fall into the former category but maybe I should keep J.J.’s wife’s wise words in mind next time I’m going overboard with the flare.
