Dogs are one of our favorite photo subjects—they are fun to work with, can be incredibly expressive, and as Elliott Erwitt once told American Photo, “they’re nice and they don’t ask for prints.”

Oregon-based photographer Ben Moon clearly likes them too. Last week his incredibly touching video about his late dog, Denali, started making the rounds on the internet. “There’s no easy way to say goodbye to a friend, especially when they’ve supported you through your darkest times,” Moon writes about the film on his Vimeo page.

The beautifully shot short is told from the perspective of his pooch and features tons of photos of Moon and his dog: camping out on the beach, posing for portraits together in the studio, and even snuggling in a hospital bed. The older stills are cut with more recently footage of Moon taking his dog back out on the road to all of their favorite spots. The video is a total tear-jerker and if you’re a dog owner it will definitely make you want to start taking tons more photos of your furry-friend.
