PPI: What advice would you give someone who is interested in trying street photography?
Shoot a lot of pictures. Experiment. Don’t go out with preconceptions of what a picture will look like. That will block you from being receptive to something new and exciting.
PPI: What's the most challenging aspect of street shooting?
Overcoming those rare days when I’m too shy to shoot.
PPI: What's the best part of it?
1. When the internal switch goes on and I’m in a picture-taking groove. When that happens, I see and am able to catch all kinds of things in front of my camera. Taking pictures is all about interaction, instincts, peripheral vision, and anticipation.
2. The editing process. Editing is an entirely different process and I try not to edit soon after I take pictures because how I felt when I took the shot, other emotions, might bias my choices.
PPI: Do the skills you've developed as a street photographer help you in other areas of photography?
Yes. I am able to anticipate moments better when doing group shots or when shooting sports. This is a great help when shooting weddings.
