There just wasn’t enough room.
In our May 2004 issue, Pop Photo devoted eight pages to the work of a new generation of street photographers. But what we also discovered was that these photographers* had a lot to say, and we didn’t have much room in print for them to say it.
Each photographer was sent a questionnaire which they filled in and emailed back. Some kept the question-answer format, others just wrote statements based on the questions we asked. There are plenty of gems, insights and advice that, we think, anyone looking to get started in street photography will learn from. We’ve edited the responses for clarity, and kept the Q&A or statement format as each photographer submitted. We did not cut any of the substance of the responses. We have also provided links to each photographer’s street photography online.
*We also included yours truly, since I have been an active street shooter since 1978.
