Among other things, it was the sweater that struck us about this winning image. Ben Taylor, a 48-year-old physician from Clackamas, Oregon, constructed his Photoshop CS file by subtly layering his elements together. He created sumo statues by painting vertical stripes and applying the Liquify filter to emulate wood. Taylor then Cloned out the columns in the hallway and replaced them with his new pillars. He created a wallpaper fresco from the ornate building using the Transform tool, pasted his figures into the image, and added shadows behind the man for a more realistic feel. Finally, Taylor used the cork pattern to make the woman a new sweater, blending it in the Multiply blend mode and Liquifying it. The result? A deceptively simple, multilayered composition.
