He prefers the all-manual Olympus OM SLRs for photography, but 49-year-old David Correia is a pro at digital image editing—literally; he’s worked in the graphic design/multimedia industry for 25 years. The Fall River, Massachusetts, resident spent about six hours creating his image in Photoshop 6.
“I just took a look at [the original photos] and said, hey, that wall, those fish, that guy…” The aquarium theme came together quickly after that. Correia masked out the individual elements and pasted them together. He then colorized the background and tinted the foreground subjects to match. He created the light diffusion through the water by filling in the layer and feathering selectively, and added the man’s reflection in the glass with a Lighten blend mode.
