Review: The Nikon D40x is an upgraded model to the D40. It was created to compete with the 10 MP DSLRs that are under $1000. It uses the same high-performance Nikon DX format CCD imaging sensor as the D40, but there is no loss in quality even with the increased megapixel range. The D40x also shoots 1/2 frame/second faster than the D40.

However, the D40x's biggest competitor is actually the Canon Rebel XTi. In image quality comparison the D40x takes the blue ribbon. It also has better flash sync speed (1/500) and takes 100 max continuous JPG compared to 27 from the Canon. The kit lens that comes with the D40x (18-55mm) shoots much higher quality images than the kit lens that comes with the canon. Nikon's new Nikkor AF-S DX format lenses are considered by professionals to be the best lenses you can buy. They're relatively cheaper than the Canon lineup and provide crystal clear images. This review is not meant to beat down Canon. Canon's DSLR lineup is superb in many areas and Canon is even becoming the industry standard in photography. In this case however the Nikon D40x takes home the gold medal.
