If you have a late-model DSLR, chances are your camera shoots HD video. And even if your aspirations don’t reach beyond capturing the big moments of everyday life, it’s still worth setting your camera to record, if only to see what beautiful movies you can make using the tools you already own.

There's a video going around the web today that's basically a commercial for Canon's new 1D C cinema camera. It makes the case that, with 4K capture in the camera, shooters can essentially roll video and just pull the moment they want from the footage rather than taking still photos. The video itself is staffed with some big name cinematographers like Philip Bloom, as well as some high end photographers and it's causing a bit of an uproar.

NAB 2012 is currently underway in Vegas, and a number of companies have announced new products, all of which seem ludicrously expensive to those of us on the still photography side of things, but are more or less standard in the world of motion.

That focus zoom control system that they hooked up to a Canon 7D. With drive belts that look like they belong in a concept car, this is only one part of a larger, modular system.
