If you're willing to lock up the mirror, Canon's beastly new EOS 1D X DSLR can crank out 14 full-resolution images in just a single second. Impressive to be sure. But, there was another Canon camera that could match that frame rate and it debuted almost 30 years ago.

Usually, exposing a 4x5-inch negative requires an relatively elaborate process that involves a giant camera, a dark cloth and more preparation that most of us are used to here in the age of the DSLR. Artist Aaron Gustafson, however, attached his 4x5 camera to a helmet and flung himself out of a plane in order to capture some extremely unique landscape photos.

Because of the recent tragedy in Japan, the market for DSLRs is tough right now. Prices of current models are steadily rising while gear that used to be easy to common on store shelves is becoming sparse. Rather than letting the lack of new gear get you down, now is a great time to crack open some film cannisters. There are plenty of used 35mm SLR and medium format models on the market at prices that make up for the fact that you'll have to pay for stuff like film and processing.

The problem with April Fool's jokes on the web is that, as we move away from that silly holiday, the results remain online to be found and drooled over by unsuspecting folks. Over the course of the day today, we received more than a couple emails alerting us to a new product that fits inside of a 35mm film cannister and effectively turns your analog body into a digital camera. Sadly, it's all a cruel prank.
