Sony has today announced the new "H-series" of Cyber-shot compact cameras, all of which carry major zoom lenses and optical image stabilization at varying price points. First out the gate is the high-end DSC-HX200V, pictured above. It has a whopping 30x (27-810mm) zoom, and is expected in March for approximately $480. It, along with the HX30V, HX20V and HX10V all have a new 18.2-megapixel CMOS sensor. Sony claims the new sensor allows faster AF speeds, 1920x1080, and the ability to record 13-megapixel stills while shooting video.

Canon’s G-series has long been a go-to model for pros and enthusiasts looking for a camera to carry when they’re not using a DSLR. But these days, interchangeable-lens compacts have captured the imagination of many such shooters.

When Sigma announced their flagship SD1 DSLR, it caused a lot of commotion. People were very interested in the 46-megapixel (15.3 x 3) Foveon X3 sensor. They were even more interested in the initially quoted list price of $9,700. But, Today Sigma is doing some house cleaning in their camera lines and they seem to have things in pretty good order.
