The secret to the weight loss: a new lens, the M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 II that keeps the combined camera/lens weight to just 454g (16.0143 oz) with battery and SDCH card. That breaks down to a weight of just 112g for the lens and 342g for the body.

Photographer Karin Brussaard was minding her own business, swimming off the coast of the Bahamas in tiger shark country, when “Sharky the Kid,” snatched and took off with her rig. Thankfully, this aquatic Butch Cassidy dropped the rig a few moments later when it realized that is was not in fact a tasty morsel. The equipment was left virtually undamaged.

This past weekend, the staff of American Photo had the privilege of co-sponsoring and participating in the inaugural InVision Photography Festival and college photography competition held at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem PA. The festival spanned three days and featured a showcase of images submitted to the competition by college students as well as interactive talks given by some of the world’s most talented photojournalists and commercial photographers.
