Soundslides, a simple multimedia program, has quickly added a new dimension to the way images are conveyed to readers of online news services and has put the ability to combine sound and images in the hands of anyone willing to pay a nominal price.
"We began rolling into the multimedia world [with Soundslides earlier this year]," says Matthew Agpar, staff photographer for Bridgewater, New Jersey's Courier News. "It's a different way to tell the story. I think it's more complete when you can put yourself into the story. … It makes the reader, the viewer, a little more involved when you can hear an interview, when you can experience the background sounds and the environment of the scenes."

The software is hardly limited to photojournalists and professionals, however. An independent band could make its first video with Soundslides, wine shops could talk about their selections of the month, photographers could make portfolios explaining their artistic vision -- the options seem endless.
We recently had the chance to talk with Soundslides founder Joe Weiss about his experiences as a multimedia storyteller and software developer, why he decided to develop the software, and what new features will be incorporated into future versions of the program.

HOW TO SOUNDSLIDE
A common misconception: adding multimedia to your website is an expensive proposition entailing a complicated and confusing workflow. Not so, says independent software developer Joe Weiss, founder of Soundslides. His simple-to-use application is powering much of the audio-visual storytelling on Internet news sites today, so there's a good chance you've seen his software in action before. There's an even better chance that you'll have no problem putting it to work for your own needs.
At $39.95, it won't break the bank, and the company's claim of "ridiculously simple storytelling" isn't marketing hyperbole. Soundslides really is easy to use. Don't believe us? Below, we show you how.
