Henry
Henry Fernando walked the city yesterday searching for pigeons. He walked from PopPhoto headquarters at 50th and Broadway up to Central Park, to the American Museum of Natural History, to 90th Street on the East side and beyond. This was all before 11 AM.
He kept going on his quest for pigeons. To Battery Park. To Times Square. And too many streets in between to count. "It was tough."
"It was challenging to get them all in one spot, but feeding them definitely helped."
Roberto
Roberto Soares-Gomes left the PopPhoto offices at 9:15AM on monday morning to search for street performers. He soon found out that there's not a lot to shoot in the morning hours for this challenge, at least above ground.
He headed for the subway stations and found a woman playing musical saws in Times Square Station, and a drummer beneath Penn Station. He then headed to the World Trade Center area. No luck.
Columbus Circle. Nothing that would work for the assignment.
Later in the day his luck improved. He began finding people to capture. Strolling the width and breadth of Manhattan, Roberto made pictures all afternoon, straight up until 10PM. Heading back to his hotel with his images, Roberto worked on editing until 4:30AM!
Paul
Paul Kline had a lot of fun with his assignment: Tourists.
"I met a lot of great people who were willing to help me out."
He too got off to a slow start, and then around noon, when the tourists he was hunting began to come out, there was 'bad midday light.'
His strategy was to start at the southern tip of Manhattan and walk up. Way up. All the way to Central Park. Then to Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall. Times Square.
As twilight approached, he again went south to the financial district, and wandered into the East Village. He finished his shooting at 10:30PM, and edited until 4AM.
