Simple is Smart
Even if you're the world's foremost expert on Adobe Photoshop, you still need a way to sort and fix the thousands of birthday party, family vacation, pet, and fun shots you take with that little point-and-shoot in your pocket. Complicated image-editing programs are great for complicated maneuvers on complicated images, but what about the simple stuff? Here's an integrated set of programs for your snapshots that's easy on the eyes and the mind. ACD System's ACDSee PowerPack includes ACDSee, an image organizer with quick-editing features; FotoCanvas, a simple picture-editing program; and FotoSlate, for making layouts, projects, or contact sheets.
ACDSee is the core software of the PowerPack (you can get it separately for $50), and it's a powerful organizer for all levels of users. You can sort your images in order of preference, by your camera's data, or by categories and keywords that you create. After the images have been sorted, edited, and laid out, one click prints a contact sheet, creates a web gallery or slide show, or resizes and e-mails the photos directly.
It's easy to make simple corrections to multiple images, but experienced users will also appreciate the more intricate controls—you can manipulate levels and curves, the database retains editable EXIF data, and all three programs support ICM and ICC profiles. So sacrificing the bulk and features of a complex editing program doesn't mean sacrificing sophisticated color correction, camera information, or accurate color management.
